Hi all,

I bumped into these two images while flicking through the Manawatu Heritage website. Both are dated as being sometime between 1960 and 1966.

The first is a window display of Crown Lynn Sapphire:
https://manawatuheritage.pncc.govt.nz/item/c81fb0e9-89a1-4979-a67c-005b73b3ab34

The writing is a bit blurry on the three price placards in the window, but it looks like a 44 piece set cost £19.19.6, and a 30 piece set cost £15.19.6.

The other is a Crown Lynn Christmas window display:
https://manawatuheritage.pncc.govt.nz/item/ad9336e4-1b94-420d-80ee-eb2b42c7ff9b

Patterns shown include:

  • Autumn Splendour
  • Fashion Rose
  • Green Bamboo
  • Golden Fall
  • Shasta Daisy
  • Narvick (two different colours on display)
  • Reflections

plus another four or so patterns whose names I don't know off the top of my head.

Note: use the + and - buttons on the lower right corner to zoom in and out of the image.

Has anyone see or does anyone have Reflections in that colour?

That could be the lighting Jeremy, as I've never seen Reflections in grey.
Perhaps it's really blue which was popular at that time?

Th competition win was blue but I've never seen it in production.

The colour in the photo looks to me to be the same as Narvik grey.

What's your best guess for photo dates? Your knowledge of patterns gives you the edge here.

The blue Reflections won in 1959 and there are several adverts from that time promoting it through the early 1960's.  This is one of the first ... hope that helps and I'm getting very bold posting these resources from the Auckland Museum :O
Bruno says the photo is from between 1960 to 1966 and I would say that is when Blue Reflections was made. I do have copies of all of the Ceramics magazines, so could pinpoint this photo perhaps, as that was part of the magazine functions.

I've had a wonderful time wasting foray into the NZ Ceramic Magazines this morning and found a photo of the Sapphire display that won 2nd place in 1965 for Milne & Choyce. My hunch is that the Xmas display photo is from the same timeframe.
