Re: Chris and Sally du Fresne - Mapua

I found this lovely platter, and it looks like maybe the same maker, mark looks like a stylised Mapua?

Does this say Mapua?
It doesn't look like any mark I could find in the book or in the gallery. It seems to say Mapua, with the P going down to meet between the N and the Z. A very nice plate, with a beautiful glaze:

Yes it certainly does say Mapua and I've added it to their Gallery thanks you Hannele

Re: Chris and Sally du Fresne - Mapua
perhaps we need to merge this topic with the other mystery one? https://www.newzealandpottery.net/t632-do-you-know-who-this-is-made-by

Re: Chris and Sally du Fresne - Mapua
Whoever made it knew what they were doing
I made an instant connection with the few pieces of Mahana Ware that I've seen, especially regarding the clay.

Perhaps they should go into the Mystery basket until they have been confirmed one way or another.
I jumped to a conclusion, without any support or reference.
Sorry about that. ...

The marks certainly look the same, the only difference being the pentagon around the letters.

Chris or Sally du Fresne
I am reasonably confident they were made by one of my grandparents - Chris and Sally du Fresne. Chris ran a pottery on Tahi St in Mapua, Sally potted sometimes too.
The mark is one I associate more with Sally, but the pieces themselves look like Chris' work. The slip cast forms are the ones he worked with before they were lost in a fire, and the designs on them look like his to my eye.
