Re: McAlpine Vitrified jug weight
Thank you so much for responding to my question. Do you also know if the McAlpine jug manufacture used a ribbed mould? I am researching the jug as part of a UTAS (Hobart)unit, and not having access to Valerie Monks books I am gathering info where I can as well as asking my NZ family about their use of the jug.
Thanks again

Re: McAlpine Vitrified jug weight
There are some McAlpine Jugs on the site and yes they were all ribbed.
They do vary in weight by about 0.1kg I am told.
Various other fridge companies also got Crown Lynn to supply them with fridge jugs, e.g. Prestcold and Kelvinator.
They were first made in 1959 and I remember that everyone who bought a fridge in the 1960's got a free fridge jug, regardless of the maker.

A couple of years ago it was discovered that Fake Crown Lynn fridge jugs were being made in China as well as Swans.
