Santos Pat. No. 503

Backstamp

I couldnt resist buying these Santos Side plates it is such a striking pattern.
These both have the same Santos 503 backstamp as above.  
 

They are very striking indeed and I wonder how many colours there are?

??You usually know this stuff Ev   I want a Green Side Plate pls!!!  

Haha there is too much to know and I will be learning for the rest of my life and still won't know enough ��

This is another colour! cost 10cents - I would have left it behind, but being a bargain... I could not help myself   enjoy..
I also have a brown version a bit darker than the one shown...

It looks like a child tried to copy it LOL  

That is interesting, have not seen that Philippines backstamp before and it's on a direct (tho rough and ready) copy of a NZ pattern.

This must be my worst example of Crown lynn that I have! I think its terrible, but it was only 10cents.. how could I leave it behind  
I think its a "test one" for the weekend staff Hehehehe

So far as I can gather there was no heritage of this sort of domestic pottery in the Philippines so the workers were all learning from scratch - and also they were experimenting with different types of clay body etc.. and it shows! You have a wee treasure there.

Really !! Best I keep hold of it and not use it for clay bird shooting practice Hehehe

I found today, two Santos plates like the ones above. Light olive green and light teal blue they are. They were in the stack together so I wondered if Santos was one of those designs that each place setting was a different colour?

Hi Thelma.. I didn't know that they did that. Interesting thought though, would explain why they are all different colours and have the same design name.
Did they have the word "Santos" or just the number?

Hi Ev, They have exactly the same backstamp as the Kelston Potteries one above.

Fi sent a photo of her Orange Santos to the site and says that she has three colours in this pattern and they all have the same pattern number on the base.



Incidentally I came across this pattern at the Museum last week in an advert in the Herald from 1970 and it cost $5.95 for an 18 piece set, no mention of colours and the pic was in black and white.
