John Lawrence
My heart skipped a beat when I spied this lovely wee pot. I thought I had stumbled across that elusive Pat Perrin piece at last!!!! My heart sank just a little when I saw that the mark was by John Lawrence. This really is a fabulous piece, I love the earthiness and the way the minimal glazing has been splashed perfectly on the pot.
and his mark..

and his mark..

Another John Lawrence mark
An excellent photo too!
I can move this into the John Lawrence thread as it's different to the one in the Potters Marks Gallery.

I found this gorgeous wee pot - a fragrance diffuser I think, it is stuffed with cotton wool and has a wee hole on the shoulder. The mark is clearly John Lawrence, but I'm intrigued by the significance of the incised 'asterix' mark alongside it. Has anyone come across anything similar on his work?

Re: John Lawrence
It could represent something simple like a new clay trial, or even a new glaze trial.... ?

My example is a bit smooshed, but given this page, http://www.nzpotters.com/PottersMarks/PottersMark_Image.cfm?PotterID=580&CFID=88642063&CFTOKEN=98959182&jsessionid=843046596d31b40703b3123a66372773c704
I am willing to bet on the 'asterix' being Anne Verdcourt's

Cat a lat, do you know the name of the potter of the lovely little oil diffuser in the background of this picture?

Re: John Lawrence
No, sorry! It's that unknown nelson potter that seems to do a few of these! It's posted properly in another thread, will see if I can dredge it up.

John's work is interesting, I hope more people start collecting his work. I have a few pieces I couldn't resist - great to live with. The opening post is such a reminder to look at every piece on its merits first before the potters mark. Great to see these photos - thanks!
