Dawn Blikshavn
I just bought a beautiful plate rather large (hang on wall). It has a lot of writing on the back,
Regal Splendour
40 cms diam, weighs 9 and half oz winstones's "18" clay, mapua, 1 glaze twice (earthware) brushed on, individually, all by hand.
cost index = $218.00 plus
Time on piece 23 hours work @ $3 per hour = $69.00 plus
combined firings total 55 hours, electricity $20.11
finished 11-1-83
Does this plate still have value today?

Re: Dawn Blikshavn
Oh that is a priceless piece of NZ pottery history
Did we really work for $3 an hour in 1983 ????
So much info on the back of a plate .... perhaps for future reference and a brilliant way of keeping track.

Wow that is fantastic!!!!!!!
So excellent that you know exactly when it was made and all of the details !
I must google that name, as I've never come across it before.

Re: Dawn Blikshavn
Yes, it's a shame that the price realised doesn't stay on Trademe.
But the fact that the listing sold is positive and there was another auction for a charger and it sold too.
You can only try ..... and use some of that info, but put it into your own words so there is no copyright issues ..... good luck !!

I thought also about asking selling direct, might be able to contact via other auctions they have going.

Dawn Blikshavn was my Mum
Hi, Lovely to see a piece of Mum's work surface, I search for her name on the web every so often, she passed away 2006. Yes it has value (well to me!). Super fragile tho turns out stoneware bisque firing and earthenware glazing messes with its integrity, only found out after she died when pieces just started shattering if they get dropped even onto carpet. If you want to find out more about her work I've loaded up her bio information and some other photos of her work on my website. www.galehainstock.com. The piece was originally sold to a couple in Twizel.
Hoping to hold a 10th anniversary memorial exhibition in 2016, let me know if you would like to include this piece, and also would love first refusal when you decide to sell it.
Kind Regards and thanks for comments, would have made her smile.

Thanks for sharing all of that information Blixie
It certainly helps to understand your Mum's work and methods which is really outstanding and extraordinary.

I have this wonderful Dawn Blikshavn piece, not sure of value but it surely is a great piece of NZ Pottery.
